Beauty for Brokeness Campaign Update

Hello all. We're getting closer to the close of the campaign with one month to go til June 30th. We've collected one bag full of donations. This is fabulous, but it will only reach a few. Safe House can fill up to 50 beds at once. I really want to be able to bring enough at least for one set of residents, but it would be great whatever we are able to bring.

Please make sure your donations consist of Bath & Body Works products (the purpose of this campaign and so they call get the same brand), and they must be NEW, UNEXPIRED, UNUSED, and they must be either FULL SIZED Shower Gel, Shampoo, or Lotion. Please no other products like pump soaps or body sprays

 If you're still planning to donate, the Bath and Body Works Semi Annual Sale starts June 8. They will have many retired products 50-75% off. Last year, many of their soaps and lotions were marked down to $3.13, plus coupons are allowed on top of that. Check ebates.com and retailmenot.com. you can purchase online or print or show the coupon from your phone in store.

One final thought is that Safe House caters mostly to women and children, but some may be teenage boys. I had some suggestions on gender neutral scent types. Some guys don't care if a scent seems geared towards women, and others do. I am attaching some pictures of examples of scents that are gender neutral after speaking with some men and are also ones women enjoy. A lot that I have talked to both enjoy coconut, woody, citrus, and musk scents. Many of the scents that are enjoyed by men and women contain lemon, orange, coconut, sandalwood, bergamot, and teak wood. Just some suggestions.

Hey guys, order smart. It's a must if you're on a tight budget or if you want to maximize your donation. I got shower gels and lotions for less than $2 each. Plus $ back. How?

1. Buy discount gift cards online at places like raise.com. You can save 10-25%. Buy a $50 gift card for like $35. Use the coupon code online.
2. Before you start shopping, go to ebates.com and earch for bath and body works. Click on one of their coupons or sales. It opens up a shopping trip number with ebates to track your puchase for $ back.
3. Ebates had no coupons today, so I used a sale link. I went to retailmenot.com and got a 20% off coupon
4. At the end of the shopping trip, I entered my 20% off coupon (my soaps were already 75% off, so it made them more than 75% off). Then I entered the gift card that I had gotten 20.1% off and checked out.

I was able to get 3 times what I normally would have thanks to this to help the campaign. Just thought I'd share my trick in case you had a set amount you were planning on as well.

Hello everyone. We have a total of 3 donations so far. Shower gel is still very needed. Don't forget to check out retailmenot.com for coupons. Bath and body works has new sales daily posted on their site that make a things more budget friendly. The last couple days they have had a different $5 item each day. Stay tuned! Also, you can use the coupons on top of the sales. For example, if you choose to do the buy 3, get 3 free, you can still use the 20% coupon. Also, bath and body works has a 3 day grace on physical coupons in store. You can use them 3 days before they start or after they expire.

Thank you everyone who has helped or is planning to. I think that we can really all bless this mission together and share a lot of love with these men, women, and children. After we start getting more donations in and shares, I'm going to see if I can talk to the managers at bath and body works and see if there's any way they can help get the word out or if they want to help on donations or collection of donations. Beauty for Brokenness

"Beauty for Brokenness" was created to serve our local SafeHouse Center in Ann Arbor. I am collecting either, funds, donations or Full sized, new and unused (and unexpired!), Bath and Body Works body washes, lotions, or shampoos. I am specifically looking for Bath and Body Works only due to the nature of the campaign.

Safe House provides a number of programs to victims, but this program will most directly benefit the Emergency Housing program. The Gifts and Grants Manager at Safe House, "While we are open to all survivors of domestic violence and their children, regardless of gender, almost all of our service participants are women and children. Through all of our programs and services (shelter, counseling, support groups, legal advocacy, crisis line, response teams), we provided services to more than 5,700 people in 2013, almost all of whom were women (the exception being children in shelter - we have a pretty even split between boys and girls)."

The campaign is to provide luxury bath products to men, women, and teens who are seeking emergency housing at Safe House. It's something that is a necessity, but also provides something that helps them feel valued in a time of difficulty. Bath and Body Works is marketed in scented products and as a luxury item and coveted by Safe House to provide to the victims of domestic violence that just want to feel loved and cared for.

The GoFundMe campaign (http://www.gofundme.com/orjd54) is open for monetary donations for those who don't want to donate the actual items, or you can contact Melissa Cantey skatardrummer@gmail.com for details on how to make money donations in person for these items to be purchased for you or if you are out of area and want to mail your body care donations to be brought in with the rest.

IMPORTANT:
At the end of the campaign, June 30^th, a giant card will be created with all the signatures and messages of encouragement from people that donated. Please fill out one of the notes with a message and your name to be included in the card. If you are donating online through GoFundMe, please make sure you include your message with your donation.

Please note that because this is for third party item donations, none of this is tax deductible per the Gifts and Grants Manager. Applicable tax unfortunately is the responsibility of donors. A tax refund slip will not be available. If you would like to make a financial donation directly to Safe House, please see further details at www.safehousecenter.org

Please note that for the safety of the survivors and staff of the center, I have been asked not to publish any names, and likewise will probably be unable to provide pictures of the people being helped, but I will be happy to take pictures of the donations before it is delivered and the giant card when it's complete. Sorry for the inconveninece, but this was requested by Safe House staff in order to continue to keep those people safe.

I have talked to my local Safe House in an effort to reach out in starting a new campaign for victims of domestic violence that are staying at Safe House. Beauty for the Broken will provide something more than just basically needs, it will provide that extra little something that makes them feel valued.

Why do we love Bath and Body Works? Well, the answer is on the back of the Orange Ginger label I realized the other day -- "Luxury." My channel and thus blog has provided an outlet for me to share something that I've enjoyed as a self care luxury during my own times of need and battling some of the same things Safe House victims experience.

I'm still discussing with them how this campaign will work, but I would like to take donations of new and unused Soap, Shampoo, and Lotion only. For those that don't wish to donate the actual items, I'm going to see about setting up a fund so items can be purchased under sale, preferably at the next Semi Annual Sale when they can be maximized. That's usually in June. For those who are still uncomfortable making dontations thus way, I highly recommend checking out  http://www.safehousecenter.org/ to see how you can help.

New Nintendo 3DS XL

This is something aside from the Bath and Body Works and home fragrance, so I apologize for my separate tangent. 

The "NEW" Nintendo 3DS launched in February. There was a lot of speculation about it and whether new games that were to come out would be exclusive to that system (it turns out they are not). The NEW 3DS is the same compatability as the original.

The differences being a better processor, better graphics, and it upports interface for the new amiibos.

This shows "LL" instead of "XL" because that is how the model is released in Japan.







There has been quite a lot of hype about this NEW 3DS mostly because of the re-release of The Legend of Zelda: Majora' Mask. Just like with the re-release launch of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time for 3DS,  limit edition Zelda Console was also released.

The insanity ensues when people buy these limited edition consoles for $199.99 and then put them on ebay for $325-500.

What is the whole point of this article?

What else. Deal hunting. I found a graphic artist on ebay that makes console skins for just about every gaming device, and he's GOOD. I ordered a skin from him that matches the limited edition cover, and it's perfect. I would recommend buying a clear plastic case to go over it to protect it from wear.

The skins are made of vinyl and stick on without tacky adhesion, so they come off without leaving residue. Handheld console skins run about $6.00-9.00 a piece.

The cutest thing

I was in a Bath and Body Works at Great Lakes Crossing while we were waiting to get into aquarium, and this guy was taking his daughter on a date. He said, "I'm sorry I couldn't take you to the aquarium, but at least I can get something to make you smell good." She was like 11 and all happy. I almost wanted to give her our tickets but they're not mine to give. But what a sweet daddy.

Recycled Bath and Body Works wax

Bring water to boil in pot. Place burned out candle in pot, or if you have wax chips, place in a glass container that you will not be using for food. Melt wax. Remove container with tongs. Use heat safe mitt or oven pad to hold the bottom while you pour into a new container you have prepared with a wick. I use recycled containers from resale stores. Stabalize wick while it cools to avoid crooked wick or sinking. Let dry overnight.

Holy hauls!

For the record, I do not buy a zillion things in one day. Sometimes I'll stock up some things and then upload videos. I also may sometimes recieve things as gifts or buy something to show you, and then I may decide there was something else I had wanted instead. I do not ever take anything back to Bath and Body Works unless it is a dud or it is new and unused. I only took something used back one time because I didn't like it. It was part of the frosted candles collection and now I don't remember which one it was.

That being said, I do have a lot of bath and body works, but I never ever pay full price, and I always have coupons.

I burn through candles really fast. I think I've burned through like 15-20 since June. I always try to time things so I don't spend more than $8-9 on a candle.

Also I have suggested this in a previous post, ebates.com is a wonderful tool that gives cash back. I've also resold in order to be able to purchase additional things to review.

I really enjoy sharing the products and I hope people enjoy the channel and blog.

The history of Bath & Body Works goes back to 1990 when it was founded in New Albany, Ohio. Bath & Body Works is owned by Limited Brands which is traded on the New York Stock Exchange under the symbol LB.

The Celebrate Your Spouse Project

This post is not going to be Bath and Body Works related, but I'd like to post it to this blog because I want it to be inspiring and uplifting. Scents do that in a way to people as well-- help us to recall happy memories and make new ones.

This is the Celebrate Your Spouse Project. I talk a lot about "Celebrating" people in your life. It's an element in relationships that so many people miss and it attributes to the rise in divorce. However, I also see so many examples of people doing this everyday and setting example for what an imperfect, but loving relationship looks like. No relationship will ever be perfect, but what's important is that you work on it and grow together.

Celebrating your spouse can be big things like announcing to everyone how important they are in your life, to small things like showing off their talent and creativity in a subtle way, or even just enjoying simple pleaures in life together.

Are they real? Well, they came from my Facebook news feed, so I get to share with you also some wonderful people I know. Knowing all these people, I know some of their ups and downs and struggles they've shared. A few of them are typically men and women of few words, but mean every one of them from their heart, others are very free with their love and compliments. "Love" is thrown around so casually by people, especially online...so this means more to be able to share people I know and the genuine depth behind what they say. I've blocked out their last names for their privacy. This is a work in progress and I'm starting with some posts that have stuck out in my mind. I wish I could share with you all the living example of people I know that make these orts of things part of their life routine but just don't post it on Facebook, but unfortunately, posts must do!
